About the Workshop
Advancing in your practice & working with Prana
This weekend, we will explore working with prana in our asana practice and understanding the five vayus. Vayu translates as "wind" and the root, "va" translates to "that which flows." Thus a Vayu is an energetic force that moves in a specific direction to control bodily functions and activities. Each vayu governs a specific area of the body and ideally functions in harmony with each other. Their subtle energetic movements affect our physical, emotional, and mental health and wellbeing. Understanding how to integrate our Vayus into our practice can create harmony through the energetic system and balance in our being. We will explore advanced asana and how to integrate our breath and bandhas to create balance and ease in our systems.

Friday 30.06 18h-20h - Apana Vayu is situated in the pelvic floor and moves down and out. We will begin this weekend with a slow grounded flow focused on standing postures and hip openers, guiding us towards padmasana and pranayama working the exhalations. This practice will cultivate steadiness and focus moving us towards a quiet deep Savasana.

Saturday 1.07 11h-14h - Samana Vayu is situated in the abdomen region and translates into "balancing air" and flows from the center outwards. Twisting postures along with specific pranayama can stimulate this region and create a feeling of deep transformation. We will continue to access our roots as we explore postures that work the principle of rooting and rebounding like twisting arm balances. These postures help us to access our deep core muscles that stabilize our trunk. We will end with a balancing pranayama and a long cooling Sarvangasana to bring prana upwards and settle our system into a deep relaxation.

Sunday 2.07 11h-14h - Prana Vayu is situated in the heart and chest region and brings energy in and up. We will access this energy center with backbends that open the top chest and throat region like Vrischikasana, Lagavradrasana, and Ustrasana. We will explore staying connected to our roots as we explore dropbacks, which also open our Udana Vayu. This is the energy center where energy goes up and out, helping us to feel connected to the way we express ourselves. We will end with pranayama to stimulate the heart chakra before winding down with restoratives to center from an uplifting practice.
