Art Therapy

Art therapy supports individuals and groups within a structured framework, using creative methodologies and tools. It draws its foundations from both the humanities and the arts. It provides a space that is both open and secure, where everyone can explore their creativity and unlock their potential for transformation. Here, the focus is not on the final artwork, but on the artistic process and the lived experience. By engaging with materials, an inner shift begins to unfold. Accessible to all, art therapy requires no prior artistic skills. It is based on the belief that every person has a creative potential waiting to be expressed.

Poietic Art Therapy

The approach I use is intermodal, intermedial, decentralized, and focused on the individual’s resources. Intermodality allows for free movement between different modes of expression during a session. The five modalities—image, word, sound, scene, and body & movement—offer various ways to connect with the world. Each person has their own preferences, often favoring one or two dominant modalities. Together, we explore those that are familiar to you while gradually discovering those that are less so. This exploration opens up new perspectives and expands your expressive possibilities. Intermediality is reflected in the diversity of artistic media used. Here are some examples for each modality: • Image: pencils, pastels, paint, charcoal, collage. • Word: creative writing, poetry, cut-out words. • Sound: musical instruments, voice, sound effects, body percussion. • Scene: theatrical play, puppets, masks, shadow theater. • Body & Movement: free dance, mime, bodily expression, body sculpting. Decentering aims to prevent the individual from focusing on their problem during the creative process. Instead, attention is directed toward the materials, the creative process, and the relationship with others. The therapist remains in the realm of play and fiction, without seeking to establish links with the difficulties that prompted the consultation. It is the creative process itself and the exploration of new ways of being that enable transformation. Resource-Oriented, our approach emphasizes the living, creative aspects of the individual. We adopt a salutogenic perspective, focusing on factors that promote health and well-being rather than the causes of illness. Various Aims in Poietic Art Therapy Poietic art therapy can be applied with different aims. While the therapeutic aimis the foundation of the profession, other aims are also possible, such as: •Personal development •Educational •Artistic •Distractive •Social connection The chosen aim allows for the construction and maintenance of a framework tailored to the desired support and its context.
